Sisal Biofil Toilet

An improved biofiltration toilet system solving maintenance challenges found in conventional designs

About the Sisal Biofil Toilet

Since 2019, Sisal Engineering and Construction has been researching and improving the biofil toilet system, which has become very popular in the Ghanaian sanitation industry. Through careful observation and field testing, we identified several problems associated with conventional biofil toilets and developed solutions to address them.

Our enhanced design works better than conventional systems on the market, particularly when it comes to maintenance and manure removal from the chamber—issues that users of conventional systems often don't realize until maintenance time arrives.

Proven Track Record: We have trained over 200 people on our improved design from 2021 to date and installed this system in countless homes across Ghana.

Eco-Friendly Sanitation

A sustainable toilet solution that converts waste into valuable manure while protecting the environment

Key Improvements Over Conventional Systems

Easier Maintenance

Our design significantly simplifies the maintenance process, making it easier to access and service the system when needed. No more struggling with difficult-to-reach components.

Improved Manure Removal

The chamber design allows for much easier removal of manure when it's time for harvesting. This addresses a major pain point that users of conventional systems discover too late.

Enhanced Durability

Built with improved construction techniques and materials, our biofil toilet is designed to last longer and perform better throughout its operational life.

How the Biofil Toilet Works

1

Waste Collection

Human waste is deposited into the biofiltration chamber, where it begins the natural decomposition process.

2

Biological Filtration

Natural biological processes break down the waste using beneficial microorganisms and filtration media, eliminating odors and pathogens.

3

Liquid Separation

Liquids are separated and filtered through the system, while solids continue to decompose into nutrient-rich compost.

4

Manure Production

Over time, the waste transforms into valuable organic manure that can be safely removed and used as fertilizer for gardens and farms.
